Christianity Looks Good on You: Why You Can Be a Christian, Despite what You’ve Been Taught to Believe
Many nonbelievers have said to themselves or someone else, “I could never be a Christian!” Perhaps those words have escaped your lips, or at least crossed your mind. From the outside looking in on Christianity and those living the Christian life and walking with the Lord, it may seem to be so. You may have heard a sermon or read someplace how Christians are meant to live and what they believe and thought that could never be you – but it can.
Christianity is all inclusive, it is for everyone. What it is not inclusive of is sin. But who needs sin? Certainly not you! Though you may have tried walking the Christian walk and stumbled, only to give up on God, or you’ve been told by others that you could never stop living the way you live and doing whatever it is you do, you can be a Christian – despite what you’ve been taught.
What are the most common reasons people are told or declare that they can’t be Christian? Here they are.
You Can’t Believe in Something You Can’t See
As children we create imaginary friends, believe in tooth fairies, Easter bunnies and monsters under the bed. We may have questions about them and whether or not our parents provided us with answers we accepted, the Bible provides an abundance of answers to all you need to know and provides proof that God exists. He is not a myth, as tooth fairies and Easter bunnies are. There is much we cannot see or have not seen that we know is true and there. Often, the things we cannot see we are capable of feeling. This is true of God.
You can feel His presence. You can see His attributes in the beauty of the things in this world. Still, we must come to God as children, with child like faith. Truthfully, it is difficult to see Him in any sense without first coming to Him.
You Can’t Know For Sure the Bible is True
To a nonbeliever, the bible is just another book. Even in reading it, its content is difficult for the natural man to grasp. However, you will see it in a whole new light when you read it as a Child of God. You will find the answers to any question or problem you are facing and you will see that the words within its pages are truly the words of God. Meant to help you through this life, not to harm you. God will speak to your own heart, just as He spoke to those whose hands were used as His writing instruments throughout the writing of the scriptures.
You Aren’t Perfect Enough to Be a Christian
Christians aren’t perfect people, so if you’re imperfect then join the club! Christians are simply forgiven sinners. That is the only difference between yourself and a Christian, but what a huge difference being forgiven makes! Christians receive the gifts of God and life with them is still not perfect, but it is far better. It is a life free from bondage, it is an enlightened life.
This is why Christians, those who are truly walking in the footsteps of Christ, may appear “perfect”. They’ll love unconditionally, they’ll forgive easily, they’ll offer help like you couldn’t imagine anyone giving, and they do sin but they are quick to get back on the right path. They are not comfortable living in sin any longer. You will never be perfect in this life, but you don’t have to live in the misery of sin either. You too can strive to live a sinless life and live in pure perfection with God in the life that follows.
The Church is Made Up of Hypocrites, Why Be a Christian When They Are Nothing Christ- Like?
If you are at the other end of the extreme, you may think Christians are the most far from perfect individuals and therefore you would never even desire to be one. What you are seeing is the imperfection of human beings in general. The church is simply a building and it is made up of both believers and nonbelievers.
The true Body of Christ is in it also, and God knows who is helping to make up that portion. Many people have had bad church experiences and decided Christianity was not for them. It is sad. Christianity is about you and your relationship with Christ. Don’t let the falling churches of today or those who claim to be Christians but do not show Christ’s love to you keep you from receiving Christ.
You’re Life is Good, You don’t Need God
Maybe you have what most would call “The Life”. A great job and security, a dream house, a wonderful family and friends, smarts and good looks. Maybe you think that God is simply something people who are hopeless and miserable need to believe in. However, the point is being missed. First off, all that you have is yours because God has chosen to bless you with it. Secondly, we are all sinners and that is what we need saving from.
If you think your life is good and you don’t require assistance, consider the condition of your afterlife. God is always in control. That which you believe you have accomplished yourself are on the contrary, blessings from Him. Whether or not you believe your life’s current state is because of your own ambition, the truth remains that there is an afterlife and your only opportunity to secure happiness in it -far beyond that which you’ve experienced here on Earth- is to become the Christian you never thought you could be!
